Clubmakers Willie Lewis Derby/Kings Norton etc William Price Lewis was born in Great Malvern in 1874 and was one of seven brothers who became professional golfers. He began his career in Stinchombe in 1889 and moved from here to become professional at Salisbury in 1891. March 1893 saw him take up the post of professional at the new Derbyshire Golf Club with a rather unusual ‘interview’. In addition to the favourable references from Salisbury, he gave an exhibition of his style and his pitching to the committee. His younger brother, Leonard, came with him as clubmaker and assistant groundskeeper. He spent five years here until moving to Kings Norton in 1898 where he remained until 1917.
