Clubmakers Fred Robertson Oslo/Banchory/Argentina Fred Robertson started his career as a clubmaker in Stonehaven then, after a season at the newly established Oslo Golf Club in Norway in 1924, became professional at Banchory between 1925 and 1927. His father had been greenkeeper there for 25 years. He went to Argentina for five years as assistant to Jose Jurado in Buenos Aires and played in many foursomes with the famous Argentinian, He also won the Central Open, was third twice in the Argentine Open and second twice in the matchplay championship. Returning to Scotland in 1932 he took up the post of professional at Dumfries before becoming assistant to Henry Cotton at Waterloo in 1934. He was seen as one of the British hopefuls in the 1933 Open Champion and was tied for third place after three rounds but fell away in the final round. He was 7th, behind his boss, Henry Cotton, in the 1937 Carnoustie Open. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
