Clubmakers R W Kirk Wallasey R Walter Kirk was born in Blackheath where his father Robert Kirk was the professional between 1868 and 1876. He was the third generation of clubmaker, his grandfather made clubs in addition to being a joiner in St Andrews and caddie to Old Tom Morris. Walter went on to become pro at Wallasey around the time of its founding in 1891 and remained there until 1928. He died at his home in Wallasey in January 1943 aged 70. The local press in Liverpool took to calling him “Old Bob”, very helpful when this had been the moniker of his grandfather. His son Andrew was also a clubmaker in the 1930s extending the tradition to the fourth generation. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
