Clubmakers Ingrams Glasgow Charles Ingram Annan obviously saw a benefit in keeping on the trading name of his uncle’s business in addition to the joint stock company he converted it to in 1896, The Sportsman’s Emporium. Charles Ingram established the business as a gun and rifle maker at 18b Renfield Street in 1834 and was famous for his own shooting ability, winner of six Queen’s badges at Wimbledon, and inventor of the ratchet system of rifling used by the British Army and the first to use steel barrels on sporting guns. Under Annan’s management it added fishing rods and tackle to its advertisements continuing with this branding until 1919 or 1920 from Renfield Street. The brand continued thereafter with premises in Waterloo Street until at least 1936. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
