D C Jones
Manchester
David Caradoc Jones was the younger brother of Tom, born in St Asaph in 1897 but growing up in nearby Llandudno.

His golfing career began as an assistant to his brother at the Maesdu club in Llandudno around the time of the First World War. After the war (the earliest mention I find is of him playing in the Manchester Guardian cup at Alwoodley in May 1921) he became professional at the Old Manchester club. He remained in the city but moved to the North Manchester club as their professional in 1927. From here he won the Manchester District Professional Championship that year.

In 1930 he won the Leeds Cup and thereby qualified for the final stages of the News of the World held that year at Royal Lytham. He lost in the first round to William Branch. Playing over his home course he qualified for the 1932 finals also. In 1932 he beat William McLachlan, in the first round but fell to George Duncan, in the second.

He was still competitive in 1946 being the early leader in the £2500 tournament before an upset stomach and eating only a poached egg the whole of the previous day caught up with him.

Like his brother he represented Wales in international matches at the end of the 1930s, against Scotland 1937-38, Ireland, 1937 and England, 1938.

He remained as professional at North Manchester until 1968 them retired to Abergele where he was made an honorary member of the local club. He, at least, intended to compete in the North Wales Alliance Stableford at Ryhl in January 1974.

David Jones died in Abergele on 6 December 1984.
