Clubmakers James McEwan Edinburgh James McEwan was the elder son of Peter and born in Wrights Houses, Bruntsfield, on 25 May 1805 to James and Jean née Gourlay. Instead of clubmaking, he followed his mother’s side of the family as a ballmaker and was apprenticed to his uncle and near neighbour, William Gourlay, in 1824. His life was short and he died on the same day as his father, 26 April 1836. Featherie balls he made are still extant. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
