Tom Edgar
Newcastle
Tom learned his golf and his clubmaking from his brother J D Edgarat the Northumberland GC in Gosforth Park.

He became professional at Settle in 1908 and then back to Northumberland the following year when the new Benton Park club opened.

He spent a couple of years as assistant to John McAndrew at Cruden Bay then, back in Newcastle, started the clubmaking business Matthew and Edgar with Andrew Matthew.

He was appointed professional to the Newcastle United club in September 1922 remaining here until 1928 when he moved to the Tyneside club.at Ryton. He gave this up in 1940 to be a reserve policeman for the duration of the war and gave his stock of 200 steel club heads tro the war effort.

After the war he retired from golf and took over a pub in Stagshaw, successfully captaining its prize-winning darts team.
