Antique Golf Clubs from Scotland

F & A Carrick
Musselburgh
The Carrick family are interesting in the development of iron clubs but generally unnoticed in their own times and, although the clubs are collectible, earn only a nod or two in current histories. I do intend to change that but meantime ...

Frank and Archibald, themselves sons of a blacksmith set up a tool making business in Musselburgh in the 1840s. This was continued by their sons, Alex and Archibald jr who added clubheads to their output around 1860, probably at least ten years before anyone else in Scotland saw this as a business opportunity. It was a small part of their output but they saw the future: they were the first to identify their work with a cleekmark (a cross) and add their name to the head, a move soon to be copied throughout Scotland.
