W A Tait
Kinghorn/Michigan
William Arnott Tait from Kinghorn served his apprenticeship in the town as a clubmaker with William Gibson.

He found a position as a professional with the Automobile Club of Detroit (now the Pine Lake Country Club) ands sailed on the Celtic for New York on 2 June 1920. He was joined there the following year by his brother Alexander.

He later moved to be professional at the Gowanie Golf Club at Mt Clemens, Michigan and, at least in 1930, presumably when there was snow on the ground, worked with three other professionals giving lessons at Hudson’s Golf School in Detroit.

He came back to Scotland in December 1932 to visit his mother in Kinghorn, Sadly he fell ill and died in Edinburgh from pneumonia. He left a widow and three children.
