Clubmakers Jimmy Thomson North Berwick/Virginia Born in 1908, the son of Wilfred Thomson (and nephew of Ben Sayers), the family emigrated to Virginia in 1921. A renowned long hitter when he became a professional (winner of the North American long-driving contest in 1937), this skill associated his name with the Swingrite limber shaft, an ultra flexible shaft (which frequently broke) made from nine pieces. This was incorporated into models bearing his name such as the Big Ball model oversized driver. He appeared in the films "The Caddy" with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis and “Shoot Yourself Some Golf” with Ronald Reagan. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
