Randall Ladies 2-iron
Maker:
John "Jack" Randall
, Enfield/Bromley etc Date: 1928
A well-stamped iron club in excellent original condition from John Randall, a well-thought of Home Counties clubmaker and professional.
There is an enclosed hyphen pattern face and the reverse of the head is centrally stamped "J Randall Kent Sundridge Park" in an oval. It is further stamped "Iron 2", "Warranted Hand Forged" and "L" (for Ladies). It also carries a very clear cleekmark or "false" cleekmark of some heraldic beastie, apparently with three arms and two legs. Although it looks like a wingless gryphon it represents the "Lion brand" (a very undernourisihed lion) of the PGCA cooperative.
The original shaft is straight and in excellent condition and is also stamped "J Randall Sundridge Park GC Kent" in script. The sheepskin grip is probably the original.
The condition and clear markings make for a good display club but it is also perfectly playable.
