Split-cane spoon with one-piece grip
Maker: George Bussey , London
Date: 1920

This has been attributed to Bussey on the basis of it having the one-piece Bussey grip sewn with a seam. However, although Bussey was still selling clubs by the 1920s they were no longer producing their own so it is hard to say who made this, possibly one of the fishing rod manufacturers.

The shaft is made of spilt cane - like Hardy Brothers' palakona but different. Palaxona is hexagonal and that shape is maintained throughout the shaft. This is made from eight pieces (octagonal) but this is only visible when looking down at the top of the shaft. The eigh pieces are enough to make the shaft itself appear circular.

A very attractive and unusual club albeit the gaps in the history of its production are frustrating.

Price $470.00
