New York mid-iron
Maker:
G F Underhill
, Newark/New York Date: 1916
A diamond-back (concentrating weight behind the sweet spot) mid iron from a long-established manufacturer and retailer in Tribeca. Stamped "G F Underhill New York", in oval form, around "Maker", in script, it is also marked "Hand Forged" and "Mid Iron" with a mark of three hyphens above this.
The face has an enclosed, hand-punched dot pattern. The sole of the club is also stamped "Mid Iron".
The hickory shaft has the slightest of bends to it but is in very good condition. The polished calfskin burgundy grip is probably a replacement added in the 1920s.
