Ladies wooden putter
Maker:
D & W Auchterlonie
, St Andrews/North Berwick Date: 1930
Rather more scarce than their male counterparts, a late ladies wooden putter, revisiting the 1890s style, by the famous clubmakers, Auchterlonie of St Andrews.
The head is made from persimmon and is socketed. There is a heavy lead backweight and the sole is protected by a full brass plate secured by six screws. The crown is stamped "Auchterlonie Special L". Very traditional Auchterlonie craftsmanship is visible with a ram's horn slip running the full length of the head.
The club has a good hickory shaft (also stamped "Auchterlonie St Andrews"). The grip is one of the early ribbed and perforated ones typical of the 1930s.
A nice present for a lady golfer.
