Dickson transitional beech spoon
Maker:
J & A Dickson
, Edinburgh Date: 1895
A very attractive transitional (semi longnose) spoon from the well-respected Edinburgh craftsmen John and Alexander Dickson. The head is made from a well-marked piece of beech with banding running from heel to toe and is clearly stamped "Dickson" on the crown. This stamping is picked out in gold paint. The sole is protected by a full brass soleplate secured by six screws and, additionally, by a horn slip between this and the wood.
The dark beech head contrasts nicely with the yellow shaft, still straight and in excellent condition. The club is finished with an old sheepskin grip.
