Left-handed sterling silver scared Sabbath stick
Maker:
Unknown
, Unknown Date: 1891
A quite beautiful and most unusual piece, this can be regarded as a Sabbath stick in miniature or a swagger stick. Around 25.5" in length, it has a left handed longnose putter head joined to the dark shaft with a reverse scare and secured by two pins. The head is sterling silver and so stamped. It is hallmarked for the Sheffield assay office and has the date stamp for 1891. The crown is stamped, as a "real" club would be with the maker's mark, "B&S" for the renowned Sheffield silversmiths, Thomas Bradbury and Son. The shaft is nicely tapered and is finished with an ivory or ivorine tip.
