J G Egleshaw
Southwell
Born in Besford, Nottinghamshire, John George Egleshaw was the professional at the now defunct nine-hole Southwell course in the county between 1912 and 1917. This was not a full-time position as he also worked in the local lace-making factory of E Carey & Sons.

He joined the Royal Naval Air Service as Aircraftsman 2nd class in 1917 and, after only two months, was killed when struck by the propeller of a seaplane at Calshot Naval Air Station, Southampton.
