Roy McInnes
Fulwell (Teddington)
Roy William J McInnes was an assistant, I think, rather than full professional on the eve of the First World War and a very young man as he had served with the London Regiment in Malta, Egypt and the Dardanelles before being sent to France where he met his death in 1916.

He was born in Forest Hall, Tynemouth, but the family moved extensively with Roy’s father, a Scotsman from Alyth, being a traveller for an iron foundry. The seven children were born in five different places from Edinburgh, where Roy spent some time as a young child, to the Cape Colony. Roy, though, went to school and grew up in Teddington where his father worked as a tram driver.

He had been declared missing on 1 July 1916, the opening day of the Battle of the Somme. and it was the following May before his parents received notice he had been killed. He is buried at Gommecourt British Cemetery No.2., Hebuterne, Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
