W G Rainbow
Warren House
William George Rainbow was born in Berkhamsted in 1886. At the time of the 1901 census he was the eldest child, living with his mother, Mary, and four siblings at 56 Shaftesbury Road, Watford. The census entry stated he was a golf caddy.

By the time of the 1911 census he was living with his wife and 2 year old daughter (both called Beatrice) at The Cottages, Warren House, Hendon and was a ‘Golf Professional’ at the ‘Golf Links’. The ‘Links’ was the private 9-hole course at Warren House which was active from the early 1900s until the outbreak of World War II.

William served as a Private in the 1st Battalion, The Bedfordshire Regiment, and died of his wounds on 31 March 1915 at 85 Field Ambulance in Belgium. He is commemorated at Bedford House Cemetery, Ypres, Belgium.
