Clubmakers Arthur Davey Newton Green Arthur Davey, born Bungay, Suffolk, 1895, was already working as a labourer at Newton Green Golf Course where his brother, William was professional, at the time of the 1911 census. Earlier still he had been assistant to E A Larke at Bungay at the age of 14. Arthur and William both served in the First World War but only Arthur returned. Arthur took his brother's place as professional in 1919 and restored the course after its wartime neglect. He remained as professional until 1979 and, on his retirement was made an Honorary Associate Member of the PGA. He died in 1992 and the club commemorated him by modelling the starter's hut on his little shop. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
