Clubmakers A J Chapman Leipzig/West Virginia USA The first record I have of A J Chapman is as one of the professionals (so either the full professional or his assistant) at the Gaschwitz course in Leipzig in 1911. Via England, he made his way to the United States in 1913 to take up the professional's post at Parkersburg, West Virginia. By 1920 he was at the Wheeling club, also in West Virginia where he stayed until 1953. In the July issue that year, Golf Digest announced 'Chappie has been Wheeling pro for 33 years and is retiring .... Almost every golfer in West Virginia knows him and loves him'. He was state champion in 1928 and 1934. Search the catalogue for clubs by this maker | |
