Jack Thompson
Monifieth/Burlington
Jack Thompson was a good amateur golfer in Monifieth and started his golfing career there as an apprentice to R D Smith.

To learn more about clubmaking he went to David Anderson & Sons in St Andrews. His play in the town at the Artisan Club attracted wider attention and he went to Burlington, Iowa as professional in 1908 for a couple of seasons. A further season in the United States was spent at Sheboygan, WI, as clubmaker and professional.

In 1911 he was appointed professional to the Salisbury Golf Club in Rhodesia (now Royal Harare, Zimbabwe).
