William Warburton
Grimsby and Cleethorpes
William was born in Dunham, Cheshire in 1879, the elder brother of Ernest who was professional at the Kitzeberg club in Kiel at the outbreak of World War I.

He became professional at the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Golf Club (shortened to the Cleethorpes Golf Club in 1929) sometime around the turn of the 20th century. He was certainly there in October 1900 as he played a tournament in Sandwell, Nottingham with that affiliation. The next year he appears as a golf professional, lodging with a family, in Cleethorpes.

Like his brother, he had a fondness for crossing the Pennines towards his Cheshire home to play in the Manchester Open in Trafford Park. He also played a lot of exhibition matches, sometimes as part of inter-club matches, against other local professionals, especially Harry Tuck at Hull, Archie Earl of Lincoln and the Beverley professional, Arthur Dell.

He was still in post in 1927. He died in 1932.
