W L Ritchie
Aberdeen/Worplesdon
W L Ritchie A native of Aberdeen, born there in 1884, William Leggat Ritchie, learned his trade as assistant to James Braid at Walton Heath. He had a short stay as pro at King's Links in his home city and was appointed professional at Worplesdon, the club much loved by Bernard Darwin, in 1911 after winning the Assistants' Tournament in 1910. He remained here until 1922 (although he was away on war service from 1915-19). Ritchie moved to the Addington club in Croydon in 1922 and formed a clubmaking business with the Welsh professional, J B Ross, selling "Ritros" brand clubs although the partnership only seems to have lasted about a year.
