Bob Martin
St Andrews
Bob Martin Born in St Andrews 1855, Martin was hired on the spot at the end of a day's caddying by Jamie Anderson. He completed his apprenticeship and then left to work for Robert Forgan around 1880. Shortly afterwards he went to Tom Morris's shop but, according to most of the golf history books, a fall from a cart in 1902 put an end to his clubmaking career and he returned to caddying. This is not the case as he was still working for Tom Morris in February 1904 when he fell over a stone at the Back Braes in Strathkinness breaking his leg in two places. He was taken to the Cottage Hospital, St Andrews, and that was surely the career ending injury. He died in 1917.

There are very few clubs marked with his name and he is better known for his work on the course, being Open Champion in 1876 and 1885.
