Clubmakers Walter Locke and Co Calcutta Gunsmiths who opened their first sporting goods retail outlet in India, operating from a very grand building in Esplanade East in Calcutta, in 1888 with William Bradshaw, an artillery officer, as managing director. They were the first agents for Slazenger in the sub-continent and imported many clubs from Scottish makers. They soon branched out into electrical engineering and motor cars and launches. Further branches were opened in Lahore, Delhi and Simla. The photograph is of the Lahore branch around 1906. This shop (Lahore by then being part of Pakistan) was operational until the 1970s.
