B E Hobley
Colwall/Leamington
B E Hobley Born in Headington in Oxfordshire in 1892, while his father A J Hobley was professional to the Oxford University club, he was one of three brothers who followed in his father’s footsteps. According to press reports Bertram Edward Hobley supposedly took up golf seriously when his father was professional at Minehead i.e. before the age of 5!

His first professional post was at the new club at Colwall in 1908, laid out on the edge of the Malvern Hills by his father, but the club never really took off and he moved to another new club at Cirencester which opened in May 1910, attracting much praise for the condition of the course fron the Cheltenham Chronicle. There was a brief move to the Potteries where he spent six months at Newcastle under Lyme before going back to Leamington as professional to it and the North Warwickshire Ladies Club who both played over the same 9-hole course at Milverton where he remained until leaving professional golf in 1933.
