A W Oakley
West Middlesex
Arthur William Oakley was born in Catesby, Northants, in 1895 but his family had moved to Harrow-on-the-Hill by 1907 and he is listed on the 1911 census as a golf clubmaker (assistant) living with his parents and four younger siblings in Henton Lane Cottages. He was still assistant at the local Stanmore club in 1913, playing from there in the Southern Section of the PGA Assistants' tournament.

Jackson's Register has him as assistamt at Berkhamstead in 1914 though I can find no evidence of this. Presumably he was called up, or volunteered, during the First World War (though again I have been unable to identify his service record) and the next notice I have of him is playing in the Southern Qualifying competition for the PGA £750 tournament in 1923 from West Middlesex. Jackson has him at West Middlesex until 1938 but I can find no mention of him after 1928 when he played in the qualifying rounds for the Open Championship at Sandwich.
